Japanese American Heritage in the Gorge

Join us for two days exploring the people, orchards, and stories that helped shape the Columbia Gorge.

Throughout both days during regular museum hours, visitors can watch an OPB short documentary featuring Kiyokawa Family Orchards and the history of Japanese Americans in the Hood River Valley, enjoy free apple tastings, purchase seasonal fruit from Kiyokawa Family Orchards, and browse books related to local Japanese American history.

Featured Talk on Friday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m., historian and author Linda Tamura and Carl Casey of the American Legion Post in Hood River will present a special program exploring the historical struggles faced by Japanese Americans in the eastern Columbia Gorge and recent efforts toward reconciliation, recognition, and acknowledgement.

For the full Friday evening experience:

• Arrive around 5:15 p.m. for apples and refreshments

• Watch the final documentary screening at approximately 5:45 p.m

• Stay for the presentation beginning at 6:00 p.m.

All Apples and Ancestry programming is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required. Regular museum admission applies only to guests who also wish to visit the museum exhibits.
