POSTPONED – Museum Members-Only Hartsfield Quilt Exhibit Opening with Jim Tharpe
A special treat for Museum members only – the Hartsfield Quilt Collection is planned as the newest traveling exhibit at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. This exhibit, originally scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2020, has been POSTPONED until the Oregon State Governor lifts the restriction on gatherings of 10 or more.
The exhibit of Civil-war era antique quilts date from the early 1850s through the mid 20th century. The oldest quilts were created by Molly, who was a seamstress and a slave in Tennessee. They will be juxtaposed with modern quilts made using the same traditional patterns. Heir to the Hartsfield family quilt collection, Jim Tharpe, will share stories from his family history of plantation life. Jim is the great, great, great grandson of Miss Molly.
Social hour and exhibit viewing begin at 5:00 pm.
Dinner begins at 6:15 pm, and will be served in the River Gallery. Reservation groups will be seated together, observing social distancing from other parties. Advance reservation is required.
The dinner menu features your choice of Chicken or Eggplant Parmesan (please specify on ticket order if you would like the vegetarian Eggplant Parmesan option), Caesar salad, garlic bread and dessert. The vegetarian Eggplant option must be specified at time of reservation.
Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
The exhibit will open the next day for non-members. You can become a member today by clicking this link if you wish to attend the private opening event.
As soon as possible, we look forward to rescheduling this event.
