We have unfortunately had to make a decision to postpone the Columbia River Indian Summer event scheduled for Saturday, September 9. You probably realize there is an active wildfire in the Columbia River Gorge at this time. The I-84 freeway is closed from Troutdale to Hood River. The air quality is currently unhealthy here in The Dalles, and with the I-84 freeway closed at this time, we have presenters who cannot easily make it to the museum. We will wait until the gorge reopens and then reschedule the event. Thanks for understanding.
We plan to reschedule the event later in the year. There will be music, games, food and vendors. This is a time to celebrate, and honor the River and the Indigenous River people.
“We want to offer the opportunity for local indigenous peoples to showcase their culture and history at our facility,” said Executive Director Carolyn Purcell. This is part of an ongoing Indigenous Voices Project funded in part by grants from Trust Management Services, Oregon Historic Trails Fund and Wy’East Fund of Oregon Community Foundation, and Oregon Folklife Network. Additional sponsorship is provided by Weston Kia, Gresham.
