Climate Change in the Cascades Field Trip

Get outside and see with your own eyes Climate Change and the possible impact on the Gorge.
Tour the Gorge from The Dalles to Cascade Locks with Steve Carlson at the helm, examining the vegetation, water PH/flow rate/ temperature and clarity.  Check the relative humidity, temperature, cloud type and cover, wind speed and direction, at each locality. Understand what could be at risk.

What and how a change in our climate may mean to you, is an important consideration when looking towards the future for this generation and all of the following ones.  The relevancy of Climate Change may just surprise you.

Tentative Stops will include:

  • The Discovery Center,
  • Moiser,
  • Hood River,
  • Cascade Locks,
  • Multnomah Falls

**Stops may be added or dropped  as the weather dictates!

The cost of the trip $50.00, includes lunch and refreshments during the day. Please be at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center by 8:45 to be on the bus by 9:00 am.

Call 541.296.8600 ext. 201 by May 17 to secure your spot as seating is limited or purchase tickets online.  Our next Earth Science Rocks Event will be June 8 for an evening program about Mt St. Helens and then followed by a field trip to St. Helens, East Side on Saturday June 16.

Steve Carlson

Steve Carlson, a Northwest native and a retired professor of Earth Science works with the Discovery Center as an excursion leader. Carlson is enthusiastic, informed, and will bring new understanding to the beauty of our geologic environment.

He has worked over 30 years as an educational consultant with NOAA, AMS, and the National Weather Service.  He has taught weather and climate classes to teachers during that time. Steve is an engaging and very knowledgeable host.
