Reservations: Please arrange 2 weeks in advance for a scheduled educational program and 1 week in advance for museum admission to qualify for group rates.

Group Size: Educational groups of 5 or more students qualify for group rates.

School Employees*

  • FREE

* For home school groups of 5-10 students, 1 parent may be admitted for free. For 10 + students, 2 parents may be admitted for free. Additional parents should be admitted as parent chaperones.

Payment: We can process cash, check, Visa, and MasterCard, onsite and via phone. We also accept purchase orders. You can pay at the front desk upon your arrival (in a single transaction, please), or request an invoice from the Education Director.

Chaperone Policies:  We require 1 adult per 5 students for grades pre-K thru 8th and 1 adult per 10 students for grades 9th – 12th. Group leaders must inform chaperones of their roles and responsibilities and return a signed Social Contract to the admission desk upon arrival. Request the Social Contract from the Education Director, or download the PDF here.

Time:  Please allow enough time to make the most of your visit. Self-guided tours of the museum exhibits take 1-2 hours. Scheduled educational programs take 1 to 1.5 hours each. Be sure to account for time needed to eat lunch.

Driving Directions
Take I-84 to Exit 82, turn right on the Historic Columbia River Highway (Hwy 30), follow for 1.5 miles, turn right at the sign on Discovery Drive and follow to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center.
Bus Parking is available.

Hours of Operation 

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
The museum is closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Basalt Rock Café
Reservation arrangements for lunch in the Basalt Rock Café can be made for groups of 10 or more by calling 541-296-8600 ext. 202.

For groups who prefer to bring their own sack lunches, there are picnic tables available outside the museum. Hot and cold beverages are available for sale.

Columbia River Trading Co.
The museum store has many educational books, games and toys geared for young children to adults. Be sure to allow a little time for shopping at the Columbia River Trading Co.
